What if Life Changing Beds aren’t a Preferred Supplier at my Support at Home provider?

If your provider isn't familiar with Life Changing Beds and you would like to get equipment through us, you can simply let us know and we'll reach out to your provider to get registered in their system. Alternatively you can ask your provider to reach out to us instead. We are committed to making sure you get the right support and the best care possible regardless of your Support at Home provider. Our team can assist you and your OT in providing clinical justification in cases that require more information. We also have a wide selection of adjustable beds and mattresses that are NDIS approved and available under Worksafe and TAC.

If you would like to organise a consultation with our team, please book online or call us on (03) 9041 4765 and we'll be happy to help.

How Does Support at Home Work?

The Support at Home scheme is designed to provide affordable access to care services for older Australians who require assistance at home. These services are to accommodate people living with complex care needs that are not covered under the Commonwealth Home Support Program. Life Changing Beds provides assistive technology services to keep you safe and comfortable at home.

Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme

The Australian Government is introducing the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme as a key component of the Support at Home program. This new system will replace the old Home Care Packages (HCP) Program and is designed to make it easier for older Australians to access essential equipment and home modifications that support safety, independence and confidence at home.

The AT-HM Scheme provides separate, lifetime funding – outside of a participant’s quarterly Support at Home service budget – ensuring people no longer need to save up over time for larger items or important home changes.

        What is the AT-HM Scheme?

The AT-HM Scheme offers dedicated funding for two major support categories:

        Assistive Technology (AT)
Equipment or devices that make daily tasks easier, safer or more independent.
        Examples include:
        - Mobility aids such as walking sticks, frames, wheelchairs and mobility scooters
        - Toileting supports such as commodes, bedpans and incontinence alarms
        - Bathing equipment including shower chairs and bath boards
        - Cognitive and memory support tools
        - Personal safety items such as alarms, anti-slip footwear and protective equipment

        Home Modifications (HM)
Physical changes to the home that improve accessibility and safety. These can range from minor changes to more complex renovations, depending on assessed needs.

        How Funding Works

Eligibility for the AT-HM Scheme is assessed during the Support at Home intake process. Depending on individual needs, participants may be approved for:
        - Assistive technology only
        - Home modifications only
        - Or both categories

Once approved, participants are assigned an AT-HM funding tier for a 12-month period (in most cases). Under the Support at Home program, individuals may be required to contribute towards the cost of their equipment or home modifications.

        Assistive Technology Funding Tiers

        - Low: Under $500
        - Medium: Up to $2,000
        - High: Up to $15,000*
        * In some circumstances, funding can exceed $15,000 when prescribed by a qualified health professional.

Funding also covers the cost of professional assessments, prescriptions and any necessary support services to ensure technology is safe and effective to use.

        Accessing the AT-HM Scheme

        New Participants
Your need for assistive technology and/or home modifications is assessed as part of your Support at Home aged care assessment. Approved supports are then included in your personalised service plan.

Current Home Care Package (HCP) Participants
If you are transitioning from a Home Care Package, speak with your provider about your AT-HM needs. Any unspent HCP funds must be used first before new AT-HM Scheme funding becomes available.

Are All Beds at Life Changing Beds Covered by Support at Home?

All our adjustable beds and mattresses are covered under the general Support at Home provider criteria. In our experience, most providers will only approve up to a King Single size bed. If you wanted a larger bed, they may ask you to cover the cost of the difference between a King Single and your desired size. Our team is able to assist in providing clinical justification as needed, helping you with your application further.

        Testimonials

“How delighted I am to have received my magnificent and versatile Life Changing Bed today. It was brought by two enthusiastic staff members; Andrew and Jameson. They were delightful young guys, obviously proud of their product and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about it. I am super impressed by the way your company operates, right across from the initial trial run to the quick provision of a “dream” bed. I think all disabled people should know about you and what you offer. All our nightmares turned into golden dreams!” - Jeanette
